Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has urged Brighton and England defender Ben White to snub a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners are believed to be in the process of closing a £ 50million deal for the 23-year-old, who made 39 appearances for Brighton last season.

White’s impressive form on the South Coast saw him included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020 and his summer could get even better as Arsenal get closer to signing.

But former palace chief Jordan wondered why White would want to join Arsenal when he says the Gunners are “everywhere.”

He said talkSPORT: ‘Why would he want to go? There are other stages for him which are much more convincing than Arsenal.

“If Ben White is now part of the international squad and is revered as he is because he is a premium player, why are Arsenal in the mix?

“Arsenal is everywhere. If you compare Brighton and Arsenal then yes Arsenal is a step forward. But you’re talking about someone who’s on the England squad and who people inside the game think is an absolute Rolls-Royce.

“What good is the move to Arsenal, because they are far from where they need to be.

“There are a lot of people who were impressed with Mikel Arteta but now think he is just theory and not practical.”

Under Arteta, Arsenal only finished eighth in the Premier League last season, six points behind the top four places.

Brighton, meanwhile, recovered from a mid-season swing to finish 16th, 13 points above the relegation zone.
