According to Athleticism, Burnley has joined the race to sign Watford maestro Will Hughes, whom Crystal Palace also seems to love.

What is the story?

Well, the 26-year-old refuses to sign a new contract at Vicarage Road.

Hughes has already turned down a new five-year contract, and with only one year remaining on his current terms, Watford has a decision to make.

Burnley is monitoring the situation, while Crystal Palace has already contacted and discussed with their representatives.

Newcastle and Aston Villa were also mentioned. However, Athleticism believe the pair now have other priorities.

Interesting way, Athleticism claim that Hughes’ rejected deal was worth over £ 50,000 a week.

So if Crystal Palace or Burnley signed him, you’d imagine they would have to offer the former Derby playmaker more than that amount.

In our opinion, Hughes is more likely to join Crystal Palace.

According to Spotrac, the Eagles currently have five players earning over £ 50,000 a week.

In this regard, Hughes – who made 77 Premier League appearances – wouldn’t upset the pay hierarchy too much.

However, Burnley’s biggest earner is James Tarkowski, who wins £ 50,000 per week.

As we already know, Hughes rejected the same amount of Watford, so Sean Dyche should surely make him Burnley’s highest paid player.

This could cause some trouble in the locker room, so in our opinion South London is a more realistic destination for Hughes.

Keep an eye out for this saga, as Watford surely won’t want to lose his No.19 for nothing next summer.
