In a meeting on the agenda last week, Beach Haven Borough Council tentatively approved five fireworks displays for the Fantasy Island theme park. Four of the events will take place in the playoffs.
Brian Wainwright, general manager, said the dates were Sunday September 5; Friday September 24; Saturday October 9; Saturday 23 October; and New Years Eve, December 31. The fireworks will be shot over the bay at the end of Eighth Street.
Wainwright said the additional fireworks began in 2018, alongside special events. September 5 is the Sunday before Labor Day. The September 24 show will be presented as part of a Touch-a-Truck day, while October 9 is during Kitefest. He said October 23 marks the amusement park rides closing weekend for the season.
“Having more shows can attract more people and help extend our season,” Wainwright said. “We know that fireworks are a big draw.”
He said the New Year’s event could be part of a “First Night Beach Haven” celebration.
“Right now, it’s in the conceptual stages,” Wainwight said. “A lot of people come for the holidays, so we’re trying to see if we can coordinate something with the companies.”
A formal resolution to approve the dates will be on the agenda for the next regular council meeting on Monday August 9 at 6 p.m. —EE
