Crystal Palace has been linked with a decision by Vitoria defender Guimaraes Abdul Mumin as new manager Patrick Vieira seeks to complete his first-team overhaul.

What is the story?

According to the Portuguese newspaper a bola (as relayed by Sports witness), the Eagles recently spotted the highly rated 23-year-old ahead of a possible move.

The report said: “Several clubs have sent scouts to watch him in action for Vitória, where he has impressed since joining the club last year.

“Crystal Palace is said to be one of those who have recently ‘made sure’ to send an official and get more information on the athlete, as they study a” possible “signing attempt.”

However, the South London side are set to face stiff competition for Mumin’s signing, with other Premier League sides Leicester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with interest.

Vieira needs him

The 6ft 2in beast only arrived in Guimaraes in August 2020 from Danish side Nordsjaelland – which is renowned for producing several top young talent – but it has already made a strong impression.

In his 25 top-level outings last season, Mumin averaged 3.8 clearances, the second-highest total among his teammates, as well as 0.7 tackles and 0.7 interceptions, according to Who scored.

During his short career, the Ghanaian has shown glimpses of his top potential, and with a market value of just £ 1.8m, he could be a good deal for the relatively worn-out Vieira side.

Currently, only veteran center-back James Tomkins is a natural safeguard to the first-choice pair of Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi, which means Palace will need additional reinforcements at the heart of the defense in the next transfer windows.

Therefore, director of football Steve Parish must sanction a blow for the defender, giving Vieira a plethora of options along his backline.

Mumin might not be a household name or a popular choice among fans, but he would definitely be good value for money, leaving plenty of room in the capital club’s budget for further acquisitions.
