Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that his side need to be well prepared for any scenario before their critical game against Aston Villa begins, but admitted that he would keep an eye on the matches at King Power and Anfield in order to assess the level of risk Chelsea must take in the second half.

Chelsea’s task is simple on paper.

Win and they qualify for the Champions League again. But if they lose or draw, it’s a whole different situation, and in this case Leicester and Liverpool’s results will determine whether or not they finish in the top four.

If things don’t go as planned at Villa Park at half-time, he could be forced to change his approach to the game in search of the much-needed victory.

“Well I think we have to be professional and well prepared for any scenario,” he told Sky Sports ahead of the game.

“At half-time we will check – it won’t change anything because at half-time each team has 45 minutes left to play. But in the second half it can change the level of risk we should or shouldn’t take – yes.

The German has undoubtedly done a fantastic job since joining and guided Chelsea from ninth to third in the table.
