Wolves will clash with Crystal Palace in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Christian Kouame, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. La Viola is claimed to want to sell the Ivorian international, with the forward struggling to recreate the form he has shown in Genoa and Cittadella.
Having participated in 30 goals for Cittadella, Kouame secured a stint in the big league with Genoa in 2018. He started well, and after 18 goals in 51 outings in Genoa, Fiorentina opted to do so initially on loan. But its form was not so prominent in the purple of Fiorentina.
Kouame has now been at Fiorentina for 18 months and has only found the back of the net three times. Dusan Vlahovic’s form has pushed him up the pecking order and he needs a movement. It is claimed that Palace and Wolves are ready to look past his Fiorentina form.
Palace has been interested in Kouame for some time, while interest from Wolves has generated in recent months. Signed by Fiorentina for around £ 10million, he was claimed in January by Gianluca Di Marzio, journalist from Sky Italy that Fiorentina would only consider offers of £ 17million.
Leeds United were also linked in January.
Kouame is a good player, but is he good enough for the Wolves or the Palace?
Maybe, as a team player. Kouame is strong, he has a lot of speed and he can score any type of goal. But he needs momentum. He needs to feel like one of the best players in the club. Wilfried Zaha’s international teammate, Kouame would not leave for Palace or Wolves.
But coming off the bench, he offers something different. Able to play anywhere in the top three, Kouame can inject speed and a bit of change at the top if needed. For £ 17million? He’s probably not worth it, but for around £ 12million he would be a decent acquisition for both sides.
